Hello, I'm Aidan McCarthy! I was born and raised in NYC, where I attended the Bronx High School of Science. I matriculated at the University of Michigan College of Engineering in 2019 where I majored in Computer Science Engineering with a minor in Music, playing trumpet in the Michigan Marching Band all four years. In the summer of 2022 I interned on the Direct Connect team at AWS as a Software Development Engineer. After graduating Cum Laude in April of 2023 I began work as a Software Engineer at Manhattan Associates in Atlanta. I am passionate about web development, networks, and machine learning.

Manhattan Associates, Govt Cloud

  • Implement extensions and bug fixes to large scale FedRAMP authorized web applications for FEMA and DeCA, using Angular and Java.
  • Write technical specifications according to change requests from FEMA and then execute them.
  • Create, edit, and manage Jira tickets linked to code changes on Bitbucket, using Git for version control.
  • Maintain documentation in Confluence.
  • Deploy and configure apps for internal and cloud environments using Jenkins, AWS, Ansible, and Terraform.
  • Develop on remote servers with VSCode and Intellij IDEA using SSH, as well as Eclipse using X11 forwarding.
  • Write and run PL/SQL scripts to edit relational DBs on Oracle SQL Developer and in SQL*Plus.
  • Work on a small subteam of developers to build new projects for FEMA on top of our legacy Java applications.
  • Update our web servers' expiring certificates and third party software packages when new versions are released for security compliance.
  • Add UI features to our legacy applications in XHTML and XML with calls to internal REST APIs.

SDE I Intern

Summer 2022

AWS Direct Connect

  • Migrated an internal API service to view and update Direct Connect device properties from Amazon's original network to Native AWS using ELB, ECS, and Fargate.
  • Developed my project in Kotlin as packages inside version sets using Amazon's internal builder tools (Brazil build system) and cloud desktops with pipeline integration for service rollout/deployment.
  • Attended daily standup meetings, learned about Direct Connect's infrastructure and role in helping customers use other AWS services efficiently.
  • Studied Amazon Leadership Principles and corporate culture.
